Review: Webinar with Paul Hartmann AG

Internal Audit at Paul Hartmann AG achieves 100% Data Transparency with Process Mining and Data Analytics

Process visualisation is only as good as the event log on which it is based. This challenge has been successfully mastered by the Internal Audit department of Paul Hartmann AG together with our support.

Bernhard Buchner, Senior Manager Audit Analytics at Paul Hartmann AG, explained this project from the establishment of the technical basis to creating an audit concept with Process Mining in a webinar of the IIA Austria. As an experienced auditor with a high affinity for data-based auditing, he was able to convey important and very interesting practical insights and encourage some audit teams to use Process Mining in Internal Audit. In dialogue with our colleague Robert, the technical background was also discussed, and it was clearly communicated that, for example, individual extensions in the processes or limited IT know-how do not affect the success of a Process Mining project.

An event log is the summary of information on individual process steps and the basis on which the business process is visualised in the Process Mining tool. To reduce the work time and ensure a high, target-oriented quality of the results, Bernhard Buchner and his team rely on standardised event logs from dab. However, these can be customised with the necessary attributes and thus ensure a high level of data transparency. This is because facts that are not considered in the event log are also not shown in the process graph and thus cannot be involved in the identification of possible weak points and the derivation of direct measures.

After transforming the data into event logs and importing them into Minit, the process data can now be visualised in the Process Mining tool. With specially defined filters and a well-thought-out audit concept, the audit team around Bernhard Buchner has found a solution that increases the efficiency of the audits in the long term through valid and data-based insights. In particular, the combination of Process Mining and data analytics with transaction-based analytical questions provides a broad understanding.

The success also becomes very clear through the feedback and enthusiasm on the part of the specialist departments. Colleagues at Paul Hartmann AG show great interest and are planning to use Process Mining in their own department for process optimisation.

You are welcome to ask us further questions about the webinar at any time. We will also be happy to forward specific questions and concerns to Mr Buchner.

Important to know: The language of the webinar was German!
