Opening speech at “Conferencias para Ejecutivos” (Audit Executive Conference) in Argentina and Chili

On 10 and 12 June 2014 the dab:Group was invited to present at the yearly “Audit Executives conference”. This conference organized by our partner Interop LA again attracted over 400 people, spread across two days and two countries. Most of the participants are working in the area of Internal Audit, Compliance, GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) or IT.

In both locations, being Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Santiago (Chili), Stefan Wenig, CEO of dab:GmbH was the opening speaker. He shared his experience about how dab successfully implemented data analytics for two of their reference customers, Bayer and B/S/H. For both, the same analytic questions were answered - but each decided to go a different route to meet the goal they set to achieve.

The next speaker was Mr. Dan Zitting (ACL Services Ltd.), showing the future of ACL’s product line with a preview of what is to come in the next months.

Other speakers, including Miss Yanina Lobos (Grupo Carsa) and Mr. Sean Pinto (the Coca-Cola Company), gave insights in the way they faced the same challenge as described in Mr Wenig’s presentation adding to it with personal experience and success stories.

It was most interesting to see how each organization, so different in nature, still faced the same challenges and used different (as be it with overlap) approach to reach the desired goal.

For the event in Chili two more speakers took to the stage. Mr. Claudio Scarso (Banco de Galicia) looked at fraud protection and prevention with a high focus on the need for prevention, using data analytics where possible.

The other speaker, Mr. Santiago Fernandes (Acros) focused on the human aspect of being head of a team: He talked about how to motivate and lead a team. A most interesting presentation looking to identify what makes people do what they do, and how to ensure they all work together as a team while keeping their individual strengths.

For me this was a more then successful event, which clearly showed that South-America is looking to get the most out of data analytics. The turn up confirmed the interest of the audit teams in data analytics, both in Argentina and Chili. These regions promise to be areas to watch for the next few years.

I for one know I am looking forward to being there again next year, experience the hospitality once again and see how these two countries have taken to the challenge of data analytics to support audit, bringing it to the next level.
