Data Extraction

For companies aiming to reliably integrate SAP data into modern analytics landscapes, recent developments around SAP Notes, such as SAP Note 3255746, are particularly relevant. We would like to address this and demonstrate that with our data extraction solutions, such as dab Nexus, access to the required data remains fully ensured.

In our knowledge base, we have already provided an overview of the SAP Notes and how dab Nexus operates in relation to them. In this article, we take a closer look at SAP Note 3255746 and other relevant notes, explain their implications, and show why our solution continues to function seamlessly under these new conditions – making it a future-proof and reliable option for data extraction

SAP Notes at a glance and what they mean

Note 3255746 – Restrictions on the ODP Data Replication API

SAP Note 3255746 warns against the unauthorized use of ODP APIs by third-party applications. Tools such as Azure DataFactory, Qlik Replicate, or Google Cloud Data Fusion may no longer have access to ODP-based interfaces in the future. ODP was never designed for large data volumes – and now SAP is drawing a clear line. As a result, companies may need to adjust their data collection strategies to comply with the new restrictions.

Our solution, dab Nexus, is not affected by SAP Note 3255746, as it does not rely on ODP but instead uses an SAP-certified add-on and standard mechanisms.

Note 382318 – Use of RFC_READ_TABLE not intended

With SAP Note 382318, SAP makes it clear: the function module RFC_READ_TABLE is not intended for productive use. It is outdated, error-prone, and subject to strict limitations regarding data types, number of columns, and stability.

This does not affect any of our extraction products, including dab Nexus. We rely on our own certified function module with full support – stable and high-performing.

Note 2971304 – No official API for redo log–based replication

SAP Note 2971304 points out that SAP does not certify solutions for replication via redo logs from SAP HANA. Accessing these transaction logs without an official API can lead to inconsistencies and data integrity issues.

With dab Nexus, we use alternative, reliable methods for delta detection – entirely without redo log access – ensuring full compliance with SAP guidelines.

So how should you deal with the SAP Notes?

While many data integration solutions will soon reach their limits due to SAP restrictions, our data extraction solutions such as dab Nexus position themselves as a reliable partner – for everyone who wants to use their SAP data securely, transparently, and efficiently.

With dab Nexus, we can help you address your concerns regarding the SAP Notes, ensuring you can continue to work in a future-proof and data-compliant way. Feel free to contact us for a demo or with any further questions!
