This one contains the first part, the second part will be published on our blog on 20th of February.<br \/>\nIn the latest SAP\u00ae\/ACL\u2122-Training I gave there was a big chapter regarding the SAP Change Documents. There is a pair of tables named CDHDR and CDPOS where all types of business related changes are stored.<br \/>\nThis makes it very interesting for data analytics in common, and especially for Internal Audit.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.sap.com\/saphelp_nw70ehp3\/helpdata\/de\/48\/dfd498ab14280de10000000a42189c\/content.htm?frameset=\/de\/48\/dfd498ab14280de10000000a42189c\/frameset.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1. Logging changes that are related to business elements and objects <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.sap.com\/saphelp_nw70ehp2\/helpdata\/de\/18\/4363d5ffc40a47a0263d4774cfab6d\/frameset.htm\">2. Technical table logging, which is mainly intended for customizing objects <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">Both mechanisms do sound similar, both can be looked up using the same SAP transactions codes, but are intended for a different use. They also work differently on technical level. In this blog post I will compare both and give some detail information.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Logging changes that are related to business elements and objects<\/h2>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">The following screenshot for example shows the changes of financial document posting texts changes (located in table BSEG, field SGTXT) which have been logged there:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dab-europe.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/Publ\/cD\/20140220_SAP_ChangeApproaches_01_Part1.png\" alt=\"Logging changes that are related to business elements and objects: The screenshot shows the changes of financial document posting texts changes (located in table BSEG, field SGTXT) which have been logged.\" width=\"810\" height=\"613\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>1.1 SAP Transaction AUT03<\/h2>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">But how to answer the question \u201eDoes my SAP system also log changes of xyz\u201c, for example \u201eDoes my SAP also log changes of purchase order payment terms\u201d? This can be looked up using SAP transaction AUT03.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dab-europe.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/Publ\/cD\/20140220_SAP_ChangeApproaches_02_Part1.png\" alt=\"SAP Transaction AUT03\" width=\"991\" height=\"635\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">Calling transaction AUT03 using table name \u201eEKKO\u201c (this table contains purchase order headers), the logging parameters are displayed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">We are interested in all changes that are recorded in CDHDR\/CDPOS; AUT03 shows us that these changes are recorded using the change document object \u201eEINKBELEG\u201c.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">The field list in that screen shows which field changes are getting protocolled. Changes of the \u201eTerms of payment key\u201c (ZTERM) are logged, changes of \u201epurchasing document category\u201c (BSTYP) will not be logged.<\/p>\n<h2>1.2 SAP transaction SE11<\/h2>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">As an alternative to transaction AUT03 the settings for table EKKO can be looked up with T-Code SE11 as well. It also lists all fields of table EKKO:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dab-europe.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/Publ\/cD\/20140220_SAP_ChangeApproaches_03_Part1.png\" alt=\"SAP transaction SE11\" width=\"887\" height=\"654\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">Whether changes for a certain field will be logged or not can be found by double-clicking the \u201eData element\u201c of each field. Doing this for field \u201cBSTYP\u201d shows in tab \u201cFurther Categories\u201d that no changes will be stored in CDHDR\/CDPOS.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dab-europe.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/Publ\/cD\/20140220_SAP_ChangeApproaches_04_Part1.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">Performing the same action for the Payment Terms field ZTERM (Data element DZTERM) brings up the screen which shows that \u201eChange document\u201c is enabled. This means, changing the payment term of a purchase order logs the changes in tables CDHDR\/CDPOS.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dab-europe.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/Publ\/cD\/20140220_SAP_ChangeApproaches_05_Part1.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">Both ways to get the information are very similar. A slight disadvantage from my point of view is the facdt, that only transaction AUT03 showed us, which change document object class (\u201eEINKBELEG\u201c) has been assigned to purchase order table EKKO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">This completes our view on the aspect of logging changes related to business elements and objects. We will continue next week to examine the technical table logging, which is intended for customizing objects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"align-justify\">(<a
