10th DFDDA

On 5 and 6 June, the dab:Group was present at the DFDDA (Deggendorfer Forum of Digital Data Analysis) as sponsor. The forum took place for the 10th time and dealt with the Theme "Data Analysis - An instrument for improving process quality?!"

The opening presentation referred to a more unusual combination of mathematics, philosophy and economics. Prof. Dr. Hartmann described various mathematical methods from philosophy and their implications. Thus, he showed that a vote within a homogeneous group of people will inevitably reach the right decision. In contrast, an inhomogeneous group requires an exchange of information (deliberation) to find the right decision. These approaches are not immediately transferable to the data analysis, but the audience was induced to think ahead.

The first day was rounded off with an interesting presentation of the BMW Group. Mr. Dr. Heiß und Mr. Dr. Honold described the current situation of data analysis at the group audit. Currently, the data analysis is mainly used in direct cash outflows as a control instrument. A swift spread to other topics is aimed and therefore our product dab:Exporter 3 was briefly discussed. Our software has been set up and tested on their SAP test systems. Initial drift are eliminated by support and customizing and the use of the software should be possible. The dab:Exporter 3 can contribute as a solid basis for the development of data analysis at the BMW Group.

The second day was devoted to the application tools. Mr. Rinke, Celonis GmbH, presented the topic "Process Mining" and their software. The appealing preparation of business processes (process graphics, dashboard) showed the power of the approach, but also the required necessary time to analyze the processes / results. The different variations of process flows must be illuminated and understood for the final assessment, this time spent does not necessarily brings critical issues to the light. Nevertheless, the added value of this approach is clear.

Finally, we can look back on a very successful forum, which was peppered with interesting topics and the participants shared this point of view with a positive feedback too.

Best Regards Florian Popan
